What Is Juvederm Voluma Good for?

Some of us age gracefully, but those lucky people are few and far between. Most of us will face age-related appearance changes that compromise our confidence. These issues are very often caused by volume loss in the face, which can reveal signs of aging. At Soza Clinic in Richardson, TX, we offer Juvederm Voluma, which can correct these issues.

What Is Juvederm Voluma Good for?

Juvederm Voluma restores volume to the midface by increasing skin elasticity. Hyaluronic acid and volumizing agents are used to achieve this.

When a person’s facial volume decreases, they appear older than they are. Losing cheek volume may make you appear slender and unhealthy. When you lose volume in your upper cheeks, you can also develop under-eye hollows. You seem tired and unattentive if you have hollows under your eyes.

Voluma can help with all the following issues:

  • Under-eye hollows
  • A bony chin
  • Tip of the nose
  • The jawline
  • Gaunt or hollow cheeks

How Does It Work?

As with all dermal fillers, this filler immediately adds volume beneath the skin to reduce wrinkles. However, Voluma shows its full effect around 72 hours after injection. The product has been absorbed by your skin’s foundational layer during the initial period.

Hyaluronic acid, the primary ingredient, is metabolized quickly by the skin; however, collagen is also produced as hyaluronic acid is metabolized. Collagen in the skin breaks down much slower than hyaluronic acid (HA), which means you get a lasting look.

This product from Juvederm can last up to 24 months before you’ll need a maintenance treatment to keep your results fresh. As Voluma has a higher molecular weight than other Juvederm formulas (20 mg/ml), it should last longer than other Juvederm formulas. Additionally, the Vycross technology provides the product with a long-term durability.

Understanding Hyaluronic Acid

HA is necessary for healthy and beautiful skin. Polysaccharides like this one are actually chains of sugar molecules produced naturally in the body. Your skin’s most important function is to maintain its moisture barrier. It hydrates the skin and maintains its beauty from within, and the HA within it attracts water up to 1,000 times its own weight.

Hyaluronic acid also stimulates collagen production, which is why it’s so effective and lasts for so long.

What About Other Hyaluronic Acid Products?

HA dermal fillers have amazing properties for inducing collagen and enhancing volume. The effects of this extremely potent acid are crucial for your overall skin health. Over-the-counter skincare products can contain HA, and while they do not treat the foundational layers of your skin and may be less effective for certain conditions, they can still be useful. Incorporate such products into your skincare routine to moisturize the uppermost layers of your skin.

Additionally, topical HA may improve your skin’s texture and tone, while helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Your Juvederm results will be enhanced by regular use of HA-based topical products combined with Juvederm injections. Let us know if you have any questions about which topical products will be best for your unique aesthetic needs during your initial consultation. We’d be happy to help you find something if you need it.

About Treatment

A Voluma session usually lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. During the injection process, we can numb your skin with a topical anesthetic if you are uncomfortable with the thought of needles. These needles are especially small, however, so many people are fine even without numbing cream.

Once the numbing cream takes effect, though, you won’t feel any pain or discomfort; but that’s not the only reason your treatment will be comfortable. We are experts at administering this treatment, so every injection will be administered correctly.

Can I Combine This With Other Treatments?

As an anti-aging treatment, this one complements other procedures very well. A combination of this product and other Juvederm formulas is often used to achieve better results. In addition to offering anti-aging benefits, this injectable may also be combined with other products like Botox and Dysport, which produce similar results but through a different action.

Both Botox and Dysport are used for reducing the appearance of wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements. They are usually injected into the higher parts of the face.

Before Treatment

Due to the non-invasive nature of this treatment, there’s not much you need to worry about doing before your injections. In the days leading up to your scheduled appointment, you should abstain from using tobacco, alcohol, blood-thinning medications, and certain supplements.

Additionally, you should avoid products containing retinoids that may irritate your skin. Your initial consultation will help you prepare for the treatment.

Aftercare

These treatments don’t require any downtime, and “recovery” is really too strong a word for this short period. However, you should avoid a few things for the first two to five days after your injections.

Sweating, vigorous exercise, direct sunlight, excessive heat, and hot water should be avoided during this time. It is advisable to avoid unprotected sun exposure during the first three days following the procedure.

What Will My Results Be Like?

Results are immediate with Juvederm. As the filler beneath the skin only gives you temporary lifting results, you should keep in mind that these initial results will only last for a short time. After a while, you should begin to see the final results. In fact, you may notice the gel initially seems to deflate as it spreads and settles. This is normal.

For the full effects of your injection to manifest, it may take approximately one or two weeks. It is during this period that the skin’s collagen production increases, providing long-lasting and durable results.

How Long Do Results Last?

Results last approximately 24 months. However, you may be able to extend the lifespan of your final results with good skin care. The long-lasting results of Voluma make it ideal for treating the most extreme cosmetic concerns. Dermal fillers are extremely popular when treating midface enhancement because of their seamless, natural results.

The production of collagen declines with age, so younger people are likely to experience longer-lasting results. Also, since collagen plays a very important role in the treatment’s results, younger people do not have to concern themselves as much with their skincare regimen to maintain their results. Those of us who are a bit older need to make much more conscious choices about our lifestyles if we want results to last.

How Often Will I Need Treatment?

We usually recommend that you schedule maintenance sessions every 24 months. The first touchup should be scheduled a bit before two years after your initial treatment, because the results may not be visible immediately. This helps you keep seamless results. Also, the longer you have treatments, the longer each one is likely to last.

We will advise you on how frequently you should schedule touch-up appointments after we evaluate your skin and discuss your lifestyle choices in your initial consultation.
