What Type of Juvederm Is Right for You?

Are you looking for a versatile treatment option to correct fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin? With different type of Juvederm treatments at Soza Clinic in Richardson, TX, you can experience natural, attractive results without an invasive treatment process or significant downtime. Even better, these dermal fillers can function as a “liquid facelift” for many patients, giving results comparable to a surgical facelift without the cost and risk associated with this procedure.

What Type of Juvederm Is Right for You?

Juvederm is a professional line of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers designed to volumize your skin and correct signs of aging in patients of all ages. This treatment is approved by the FDA for the treatment of static wrinkles, which are connected to the deterioration of the collagen framework in the skin. Dermal filler injections can correct mild to severe lines, wrinkles, folds, and skin laxity by filling and smoothing the skin and stimulating new collagen growth.

At our office, we offer several different dermal filler types. This allows us to treat a number of common skin concerns and offers our patients a wide range of filler combinations. Thanks to its body-friendly formula and non-invasive treatment process, we can offer this treatment to most of our patients. Our doctor will recommend a filler that is right for your unique needs during an initial consultation.

A normal dermal filler injection session lasts between 25-60 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. The product formula includes lidocaine, and we also offer topical anesthetic cream to numb the skin if desired. This makes your treatment completely pain-free.

What Different Types of Fillers Are Available?

There are several different filler formulas offered by Juvederm. Each product is slightly different and is created to treat a specific skin concern.

XC

This product can be used in multiple regions of the face and is used to eliminate mild to severe lines and wrinkles in the skin. It can be used to treat the forehead, midface, lower face, and jawline. In many cases, this filler is combined with additional fillers to create your ideal image.

Ultra XC

Ultra is a filler that is used to correct smile and laugh lines around the mouth. It can also be injected into the lips to accentuate their natural shape and restore lost volume. This filler is most often used to make minor corrections and fill mild to moderate lines.

Ultra Plus XC

Similar to Ultra, this product has a slightly thicker formula in order to correct even severe lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. It is often used on nasolabial folds, which are found in the thicker skin around the mouth and nose.

Voluma

Voluma is a cutting-edge filler that was created to address the loss of volume in the cheeks, midface, and undereye area. Once injected, this product can smooth and round the cheeks, fill hollow areas, and restore volume to sunken regions. In some cases, this filler can also be used to accent your chin and jawline, creating a more youthful profile while rejuvenating the skin.

Vollure

This filler option is typically recommended for patients with moderate to severe facial folds and deeper wrinkles. It is most often used around the mouth and nose, and its thicker formula makes it one of the longest-lasting filler options available today.

Volbella

Volbella is created with the same basic formula as the rest of the Juvederm line, but it is specifically used to fill and augment your lips. As you grow older, your lips will often become thinner, develop noticeable lines, and lose their defined borders. We can plump and accentuate your lips with one simple injection by using Volbella to restore your youthful appearance.

Why Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient in many fillers and topical anti-aging products. This acid is found in the body, which makes hyaluronic acid-based products a safe and effective treatment option for most patients. Once injected into the skin, the acid attracts water, promoting hydration and keeping the skin smooth. It also creates a soft, skin-like texture that blends perfectly with your natural skin.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Every patient will experience slightly different results based on the fillers recommended for them and how carefully they follow our pre and post-treatment instructions. In general, Juvederm fillers last between 6 months-2 years. In more active areas of the face like the lips and brows, the filler naturally dissolves more quickly. Less active regions will typically exhibit results that last longer.

Once the filler begins to absorb into the skin, you will notice your signs of aging begin to return. Most patients schedule their first follow-up treatment 6-18 months after their initial appointment. The results of each dermal filler injection session may be prolonged by a good at-home skincare routine, healthy sun protection habits, and combination treatments like peels, neurotoxin treatments, or other regenerative skincare services.

What Is the Difference Between a Surgical Facelift and a Liquid Facelift?

Treatment with dermal fillers is often compared to a traditional facelift. While the results you could experience from your Juvederm treatments could look remarkably similar to those of a surgical facelift, these two anti-aging options have several key differences.

Traditional Facelift

Facelift surgery has been a long-standing rejuvenation technique in the cosmetic industry. It continues to offer results lasting 10-15 years for most patients, making it a popular option for patients who want to see their skin completely transformed without worrying about follow-up appointments. During the surgery, the skin is trimmed and lifted to manually eliminate most signs of aging while maintaining your natural beauty.

Despite its benefits, facelift surgery is not an ideal option for every patient. Some people cannot pursue this surgery due to medical conditions. Others find that the cost is prohibitive. Finally, some patients find that the prospect of 1-2 weeks of required downtime and an extensive recovery period is not convenient for their schedule or lifestyle.

Liquid Facelift

A liquid facelift with dermal fillers can help lift and volumize the skin without any related discomfort or downtime. It is more financially achievable for most patients and, thanks to its long-lasting results, requires just 1-2 appointments each year to help you maintain your ideal image. Some patients use filler treatments as a trial run before pursuing a facelift surgery, while others find that this treatment can be used indefinitely to keep their skin looking its best.

Am I an Ideal Candidate?

Are you wondering whether this treatment is right for you? While our doctor will perform a comprehensive evaluation to help you determine your candidacy, this treatment is considered a possible option for almost every patient. A good candidate will be healthy and free from any skin conditions or irritations that could interact negatively with the injection process. They will also have realistic expectations and a good understanding of the results they can anticipate.

This treatment is ideal for candidates who experience mild to severe lines, wrinkles, folds, and loose or sagging skin. It is also a great option for patients who want an alternative to traditional surgery for any number of reasons. Many patients who pursue this treatment are 35 or older, but our younger patients achieve similar rejuvenating results. Some even help prevent the development of new signs of aging by keeping their skin smooth and healthy.

Dermal fillers are not an ideal treatment for patients who wish to correct dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by muscle movement and can be eliminated with a neurotoxin injectable like Botox. We can easily combine these two treatment options for patients who want to correct both static and dynamic wrinkles. If you have any questions about your treatment options, our doctor can answer them during your initial consultation.

What Should I Expect?

Here is a general summary of what you can expect from a Juvederm treatment at our office.

Consultation

Your initial consultation allows our doctor to examine your aging concerns and determine the best type of dermal filler for you. We will ask you about your ideal goals for treatment and review your medical and skincare history to ensure that this treatment is your best option. If you’re approved for treatment, we will suggest an individualized treatment plan to help you start your journey to more youthful skin.

Preparation

In order to prepare for this treatment, you should wear sunscreen daily to protect your skin from sunburn or tanning. While this should be part of your daily routine to promote overall skin health, you should be especially careful in the week leading up to your appointment. During this time, you should also avoid any skin treatments or products that could irritate your skin and stop taking blood-thinning medications.

Treatment

Before your treatment, you should use a gentle cleanser to wash your face and remove any residual makeup or topical skincare products. Once you arrive at our office, one of our staff members will review the treatment process and answer any questions you may have about what to expect. We will sanitize the target injection sites and apply a topical anesthetic if you request it.

We will use a fine needle to inject the dermal filler into your skin. As we complete each injection, we will be able to see the visible filling result and adjust the injections as necessary to achieve a symmetrical, attractive appearance that flatters your face. You can admire your results in a mirror as soon as the appointment is over, and you’ll be able to return to your normal schedule with no downtime.

Recovery

While your skin heals, you should continue to protect the treated areas from irritation. This includes limiting sun exposure and avoiding certain treatments until our doctor gives you permission. We recommend that you avoid touching the target skin for 48 hours to allow the filler to settle into your skin. Within 2 weeks, the filler will be set in its final position. If needed, we can perform touch-up injections to add extra volume to certain areas.

Results

Once you’re happy with your final look, you’ll be able to live for the next 6 months-2 years without worrying about routine appointments at our office. Our doctor will give you a general estimate of how long your individual results may last. Once you begin to notice signs of deterioration in the injected filler, you can schedule your first follow-up treatment. These treatments are usually spaced out over 6-12 months to help you maintain your ideal image.
